Tsukiji Fish Market – 17.09.14

Just some photos from a visit to Tsukiji Fish Market, Tokyo, Japan on the 17th of September 2014. I hope you like seafood! ^^

Woke up at 4am to get in the queue for the tuna auction viewing. Interesting experience, as once you arrive at the Fish Information Center, you’re just given a coloured vest to indicate whether you’re the first or second group to enter. Then you just wait with others in a dedicated room until it’s time. (You can leave the room to go outside and get stuff from vending machines/whatever is nearby, but it’s discouraged.)

We were a part of the second group to view at 6am. You get filed into a very small standing space and you just watch.

It’s much more interesting when it’s dramatised for cinematic purposes. (For anyone who’s seen Jiro Dreams of Sushi…)

Just masses upon masses of styrofoam boxes piled high and higher.

What exactly do you do with it all???

And seriously, watch out for these things.
They’re everywhere and can appear from nowhere at speed.

Photos in the Wholesale Market Area were taken with a Sony NEX-5T with a Sigma 30mm f/2.8 lens.
