Well, what do you know? Creative have not as yet revealed a new line in their mp3 player or portable media player range. As revealed earlier today at CES 2009, Creative’s newest line of products called the “Zii”, are computer processing chips! Creative’s mini-subsidiary, 3Dlabs, has been re-named to ZiiLabs, and will be specialising in the creation of computer processing chips. What was revealed at CES 2009 was the ZMS-05, a supercomputing processor. The ZMS-05 will be able to handle pretty much everything that you do on your computer and more, using less power, less physical space consuming, and thus making it more environmentally friendly. The Zii is receiving support from Microsoft, ARM, and Opera.
Now, I’m not that much of a computer geek… Thomas might be interested in this more than I am, but from the sounds of it, it should be able to keep Creative alive. I’m still yet to fully understand all this techno-bable as such, but there is a rather informative video released by Creative about the Zii, and I have embedded the video below. You may be able to understand it more than I can.

Can the Zii be used on computers or netbooks etc? I think the Zii chip is really interesting but unless there release a Zii-based product meant for the masses, I don’t see how this whole zii thing will affect me. There are more technical data of the Zii at http://www.ziilabs.com if you are more interested.
I would believe that it will be used in most devices such as laptops etc, otherwise really it’s s little useless if it won’t. I would not be surprised if Zii chip’s were placed inside a range of Creative’s Portable Media Players. We will have to see how Creative goes about the whole Zii thing.
