Experimental Projects – Japanese… Cooking…??

Okay, so this is my… second experimental project that I wanted to do this holidays, and was… ‘completed’ on Friday last week… If memory serves… I stole a few recipies over the Internets… I mean, I do Food Tech, so… cooking food shouldn’t be a problem right? Well… I dunno… It… sorta worked…

So, on the ‘menu’:
Green Tea Custard with fruit in lemon syrup
Gyoza (Dumplings)
Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pancake)
‘Tempura’ Prawns

The whole cooking and preparing business took way longer than I had planned it to take… I ended up spending over 4 hours preparing and cooking all that… which… is slow…

So, that’s the Green Tea Custard… It was… Overly creamy, and for some reason, had sort of… a floury-ness to it, despite sugar being the only ingredient that was solid in the custard.

That’s the Japanese Pancake, which needed much more flavour… I didn’t actually put any sauce or seasoning on it, so yeah, a dull flavour was to be expected I guess…

I have this HUGE paranoia to heat and hot liquids and stuff… Ever since I didn’t burn myself on a toaster, I’ve had huge issues…. Many of my friends can’t know how bad it can be… So I got my dad to do the tempura for me, and I’ll admit, we cheated and used a prepared tempura batter from a packet…

And those are the dumplings… Which turned out alright, but still needed more flavour… I’m always scared at the strength of soy sauce. And turns out, the one I was using was a little light… =(

My Mum made a batch today using my recipie, and they turned out better than mine did… Not surprised here… Looks like there’s quite a bit for me to learn when it comes to cooking.

I need to develop my 1337 k00k1||g 5|<1llz0rs more in Food Tech then!
