K-on! Sweeps all three major Saimoe Contests

Although K-on!’s season two has officially ended, it is clear that love for series hasn’t. The group from After School Tea Time has brought Kyoto Animation and the orginal creator “Kakifly” a lot of money I am sure. Their popularity is clearly evident with the amount of merchandise available, the amount of CDs and DVDs the franchise has sold, as well as winning a number of Anime related awards, and the fact that one of the largest Japanese Anime Forums has accepted “K-on! as their reason for life” as a ‘truism’, just to name a few.

And so, it comes to no surprise to me at all, that the winners for all three major Saimoe contests are from “K-on!”.
International Saimoe – Akiyama Mio def Misaka Mikoto 7175-5186
Korean Best Moe – Akiyama Mio def Tachibana Kanade 2546-2398
Japan Saimoe – Nanako Asuza def Sanzenin Nagi 1,516-1,339

I’m not going to ramble on too much because I’m kinda tired of doing so…

Looks like my predicition from the beginning of ISML was spot on for Mio. Furthermore, my (rather obvious) predictions for Shana, Asuza, Hitagi… to be in the top 16 were correct. Also predicting the falling popularity of Haruhi characters (Haruhi and Yuki were the only ones to make the top 16) as well as the falling popularity of Lucky Star. (Hiiragi Kagami the only top 16 entrant)
I’m dissapointed to see a lack of Nanoha in the top 16, and furthermore, seeing Rika-chama near the bottom of the ISML table…

Ah well… I’ve pretty much given up in voting in moe contests… I’ll just silently curse the ones I don’t like and cheer for the ones I do…

Despite for my hate for K-on!, I’s still like to pass on my Congratulations to both Mio and Asuza (or Asunyan) for completely blowing the competition and to Kyoto Animation for brainwashing hundreds and thousands of anime watches into thinking K-on! is ‘good’. XD

Alessandro MS-1i Headphones – Unboxing

My friend Geoff recently ordered himself a pair of Alessandro Music Series One (MS-1i) Headphones (the additional “i” extension refers to the revised 2009 version of the original MS-1 headphones) through me (taking advantage of the falling US Dollar), and they arrived at my place two days ago. I managed to open them, take a few photos, and do a bit of testing. I do like my high-quality audio, but I’m far from an audiophile, having relatively little experience with high-end equipment.

Phew… New term at school, incredibly busy, lots of work being done, organisation and catch-up. Despite getting a lowly 34% for my Prelim Exam for 3 Unit Maths, I’m having a go at doing 4 Units of Maths for my HSC… Which should be interesting… First lesson was simple enough, learning about “Complex Numbers” and “Iota” which, frankly, are magical concepts to me… Why didn’t they just teach us this back when we were in primary school? We were so much more gullible back then, we would have stuck with the idea and 4 unit maths would probably be so much easier than what it’s made out to be at the moment. XD

The results of my other tests weren’t very good for my standards… Generally hovering around the course average for all my subjects, which is somewhat worrying if I want to get an ATAR of 96 to get into Architecture in Uni…

Considering joining the Formal Committee after being nagged by the current members, (though particularly Shannon and Janice…) Am in talks with Leon about whether we want to join/plan to strike some form of deal. However, Leon and I have written ourselves down for the Yearbook Committee, which should be interesting…

Should be receiving confirmation e-mail for a ‘ready order’ for my Nanoha and Angel Beats Nendoroids as Leon’s release has been delayed to late December… O_o

Been watching “Bakuman” and “” as part of the Fall season of Anime. Both have been great so far and I’m loving all the references to ‘real anime and otakudom’ in “My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute”. I won’t be posting too much about them unless something incredibly notable comes up. Though my good friend Leon is keeping up with them and regularly posting his thoughts of some of the other anime that’s being shown this season on his blog.

Windows Phone 7 has officially been launched and I am SO EXCITED!!! The land down under will be one of the first to officially get WP7 on October 21 with the release of the HTC Mozart, HTC Trophy, and the Samsung Omnia 7, being released on Telstra, Vodafone and Optus respectively.
Though, I’m super-eager to get my hands on a Dell Venue Pro, originally known as “Lightning” back when Engadget leaked the details in April. Sadly, there’s no official release date for it anywhere at the moment, and the only carrier details are that it’ll be on T-Mobile in America.

My Shure SE420 Earphones (that I got in exchange for a continually breaking pair of Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 Extended Bass Earphones) have been sent in to get a frequency response check after the lack of bass in them finally led me to ask if there was a possible fault with my earphones… Will see how that goes.
Geoff ordered a pair of Alessandro MS-1 Headphones through me (taking advantage of the falling US Dollar), and they arrived yesterday. I managed to give them a test run and take a few photos of them before he came by to take them away, and I was rather impressed with how they sounded out of the box. I’ll do a more formal write up a little later.

Spring Holidays – 20.09-08.10.2010

I’m somewhat depressed… The holidays are almost over, and come Monday, I should probably get down to do some serious business… In terms of study… But I won’t whinge about that now… This post is about reminiscing the Spring Holidays of 2010 in photo form, which has been jam-packed with social outings and stuff. One of the best holidays ever. =D

Phew! Busy busy busy the last few days/weeks… With all my/our exams all over, it’s been a busy week of celebrating-ish and taking advantage of our time off school while everyone else still had to be at school. Visited Nick’s for some jamming, and and an interesting ‘cheesecake’, saw “Avatar: The Last Airbender” for Ethan’s Birthday, had my first attempt at some hard-core DDR, and killed everyone with my legendary singing skills after a city trip once everyone had finished exams…

Unfortunately, I had planned on hosting a sort of Anime Marathon tomorrow, but have had to cancel it due to a series of technical issues as we are surprisingly not very well technically equipped… As well as not being able to go to a friend’s birthday event last night as they didn’t want me hanging out so late… So, that’s not very good. However, there are some good plans for Ben’s birthday which I should be able to go to, as well as a movie marathon and some ice skating, on the agenda this holidays.

There’s also a lot of domestic work for me to do, with a lot of room organisation necessary to optimise space, as well as get rid of the increasing amount of dust. I should probably do some catch-up on some schoolwork that I’m far from confident in, combined with a good amount of anime of course…

Though seriously, don’t let me sing… Karaoke isn’t a very good idea when you’re with me. =P

I should be having some actual content in some blog posts to come. Yay!

Daily Life – 01.09 – 14.09.2010

*sigh* Lots of exams, cramming, study the past two weeks… As well as much to organise, and Animania happened to be scheduled right in the middle of it all… It’s been a busy start to Spring…

Cosplayers of the Animania Festival – Sydney – September 2010

Okay, as promised, I’ve dumped a rather large gallery of the cosplayers for Animania 2010 in Sydney here, for you to enjoy.

I was truly gobsmacked by the amount of cosplayers and their performances this year, and just some of the elaboration of the costumes was amazing. How do you people have the time to do all that?!

Animania Festival – Sydney – September 2010

So, Animania is one of three major Anime, Manga and Japanese Culture Conventions/Festivals/whateveryouwanttocallthem, with SMASH! and Supanova being the other two. Animania spans over two days at the Sydney Technology Park, this time on September 11 and 12, and also earlier in the year, in March.

So, the following photos should basically give you an idea as to what the convention was like. If you’re looking for photos of the cosplayers at the event, they’re on this separate post.

Half an hour with Gummy Bears and a Rusty Nail

Hrmm… Random, I know, but hey… One of my friends brought a bag of gummy bears and I wanted to try and see if I could get some epic shots with them…

Though, these photos show that there’s still a lot I still have to learn about photography…

Despite today’s rain and gloom, I’ve found it to be a rather pleasant day actually. Going to and from walk, I seemed to be in a rather good mood. It was somewhat… nostalgic? Walking at a calm pace, umbrella up, enjoying the sights and sounds from the light rain that was falling… A cool and mild temperature was accompanied by a slight breeze that gave you a sense that everything was right with the world… I’m not the most descriptive person in the world, but I think you can kinda get my idea. Despite having to work today, (where it was incredibly busy) it was a delightfully relaxed day, and I feel nice and relaxed at the moment… Why can’t days just always be like this?

Maybe it’s just my brain reacting to what lays ahead, and what’s happened the week before… Loads of assignments, which have been done and dusted (thankfully), but a wave of exams up ahead… Should be an exciting and stressful week(s) ahead… My last three assignments were rather rushed, and I don’t expect to be doing too well in those as a result… (I don’t even care about Engineering anymore…)

Blog related – I’m just playing around with the current layout a bit… Fixing some of the errors that I’ve only just noticed, and generally streamlining the navigation system in general.

Other news, my Mum’s currently in in the wonderfully polluted and currently hot and muggy city of Shanghai and she stole my camera. As a result, don’t expect any photolog posts for two weeks or so. (Except for Animania, which is just one week away.)
