*phew* I finally have all my assessments done this term! (4 maths tests in a row is very very icky…) My desk was piled up with various maths notes and gunk, but this afternoon, it was mainly clearer of paper…
But *brrrr* it’s cold!! *grabs Snuggie*
*phew* I finally have all my assessments done this term! (4 maths tests in a row is very very icky…) My desk was piled up with various maths notes and gunk, but this afternoon, it was mainly clearer of paper… But *brrrr* it’s cold!! *grabs Snuggie* So, an interesting breakfast, made up of whatever some tarts that my sister and I had bought yesterday in Surry Hills. A Strawberry and Vanilla tart, Chocolate and raspberry, Ginger Brulee and a simple lemon tart. And a slice of Coles Pecan Danish… Healthy… Then after work, I set up the Gigaworks T3s I had bought the yesterday as well. They don’t seem to sound as awesome as I had heard them when the store I bought them from had them on display. Hence: Am currently trying to burn them in by playing varying Original Soundtracks. (both movie and anime)
Hope to get them set up in the coming day or two. Tehehe. So I took my Creative ZEN Vision:M to school today. Yes, that huge piece of chunky bulk. (God damn it! I’m rarely going to bring it to school if it’s that bulky!) A few of my friends were asking me about how many mp3 players/Creative players I had. Which made me realise that I have more of an obsession with Creative’s mp3 products than I had originally thought, and with me always taking a look at online shopping sites for any cheap, awesome Creative mp3 players rather frequently, I have decieded to create a new section in my blog, especially for one-topic rambles, the first of which, is about Creative Technology. Notice that I have a “I” at the end. Which would mean, another ramble about Creative Technology may come around sometime later on. I love Creative’s products. I have a nice little collection of them: Nah duh… (at the title that is…) Well, if Freehostia was working last night, I could have written about my Creative ZEN Vision:M yesterday… Anyway, I picked-up my Creative ZEN Vision:M (ZVM for short) yesterday, so thus, I now have a piece of super-chunky-mega-bulk! The ZVM is thick as! Thicker than Daniel! =P The free “Leather Case” that came with it makes it even more chunky-er! So with the case, the ZVM is, we’ll say, 3cm thick? Compared to my original Creative ZEN which is only 1.1cm thick, and the iPod 3G Nano is only 0.6cm thick… But despite it’s ultra chunkiness, the ZVM is pretty nice. I’ve got a black one, 30GB model. Right now, it’s shiny, and screen is scratchless, but I give it till the end of next week before I get a nice scratch on it! =D So, the ZVM was first released in December 2005. It has won many awards since that time, most notably “Best in Category: Portable Media Players” at CES 2006, along with “Best in Show” for CES 2006. It’s 2009 now. The ZVM is “out-of-date” as such and Creative had ceased the production of it a while back. The ZVM is said to be Creative’s best ever selling item, and at the time, it hit Apple’s iPod rather hard. Ever since, many who have owned a ZVM have been awaiting for a newer replacement model from Creative, but so far, that has not happened. I’m still hoping Creative will release a replacement this year, possibly integrating their ZMS chip from ZiiLabs. Thinking about that, if the ZMS is ultra power saving, and if they used OLED, they could have a player with an ultra-long battery life. I spent like 2 hours last night, trying to get my computer to recognise my ZVM but it continually refused to! It became so damn painful, then suddenly, ta da! My computer finally recognised my ZVM! Now it works fine, and I’m beginning to learn how to drive this thing. I’m a little confused with the buttons, mainly because the shortcut button and the play/pause button are the top two buttons compared to my ZEN where the back and menu buttons are at the top, and visa-versa. I tell you what, I don’t like touch pads or touch screens that much. When ever I use someone’s iPod, or go to the Apple Store in Sydney, I never am able to use the touch screens like everyone else can =P. They can get a little fiddly, and like everyone says, the touch pad on the ZVM can be a little overly sensitive. And as many others have said, if you’ve used the user-interface on a ZEN, you’ve used the interface on every other ZEN Series. So, I’ve got a refurb player. A former “reject” as such. I wonder how long it will last given that it’s a refurb, but Creative does say that refurbs are basically new, so they should last just as long as the new ones. Which would mean 3 years. I give my player 1.5 years before it dies, but my sister gives it 5… She has a ZEN Neeon which has been around for a long time now. (I’d say something like 4 years now, nearing it’s fifth?) Although she doesn’t use it that often, and it’s in very good condition still. I still like my ZEN better, but the Vision:M is still a very nice player, and so far, I have no regrets spending my moneys on it! =D Well, what do you know? Creative have not as yet revealed a new line in their mp3 player or portable media player range. As revealed earlier today at CES 2009, Creative’s newest line of products called the “Zii”, are computer processing chips! Creative’s mini-subsidiary, 3Dlabs, has been re-named to ZiiLabs, and will be specialising in the creation of computer processing chips. What was revealed at CES 2009 was the ZMS-05, a supercomputing processor. The ZMS-05 will be able to handle pretty much everything that you do on your computer and more, using less power, less physical space consuming, and thus making it more environmentally friendly. The Zii is receiving support from Microsoft, ARM, and Opera. Now, I’m not that much of a computer geek… Thomas might be interested in this more than I am, but from the sounds of it, it should be able to keep Creative alive. I’m still yet to fully understand all this techno-bable as such, but there is a rather informative video released by Creative about the Zii, and I have embedded the video below. You may be able to understand it more than I can. Other websites that can explain more are: Well, I found this a while ago, when I was visiting Creative’s website and on their website, if you go to it, you’ll notice the main flash animation banner thing saying “Everything you know is about to change”. If you click “find out more”, it leads you to “Zii“. So what is this “Zii”? A rip off of the Wii? Creative is being rather vague… Many of those in the online community do not know what it is, nor whether or not their “stemcell computing” (which if you’ll notice, Creative have trademarked) is just a teaser. Many believe it is a “chip” of some sort, that can be integrated into many devices, and that it will do something to them. However, like I am, many are hoping it’ll be a new addition to Creative’s line of mp3 players and Portable Media Players (PMP). Creative has been said to be “dying” amongst many people in forums and Endgadget certainly believes that this marks the end of Creative. Last year, Creative Technologies had to undertake major cost cutting measures by selling off their main building in Singapore, closing down a few factories, and having to let go almost half of their workforce. It’s hard to find Creative products here in Australia these days. They used to have a fair share of the mp3 and PMP market but now, it’s a real struggle to find one these days. With such an Apple iPod dominated market down here, it’s kinda hard to find anything else. If Microsoft released the Zune down here, I’m sure it’d hurt Apple quite a bit. but that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. So, really, what is next for Creative? Honestly, I think their next product (if that product even get’s released) is make or break for them. What they need to make is a product that is a direct competitor to the iPod/Zune. When browsing around Anythingbutipod.com’s forums, many people are looking for an updated version of the highly appreciated Creative ZEN Vison:M. Many of them seem to like it’s design (apart from the fact that it is super chunky!) it’s wide range of codecs, and it’s handling/interface etc. What I am hoping for, and what I’d like the Zii to be is a new PMP that rivals the iPod/Zune. Large screen, (3 inch? 320×240 or 480×270?) the super awesome 16,700,000 colour display, (iPod and Zune only has 64,000) the FM Radio, wide range of audio and video codecs just like all of Creative’s PMP’s, (WMV, XviD, DivX, MPEG, mp3, WMA, ogg, etc.) high capacity (60GB+) with external memory slot (a fully intigrated one, not like the ZEN’s) and the wonderous drag and drop system as with most of Creative’s products. Touch screen, and wi-fi not necessary but would be fun to have. Oh, and same awesome design as most of Creative’s products! =P As for the Zii, who knows what it could be! epiZENter seems to know a little something about it… A lot of people are saying “Don’t get your hopes up”, which I should do, but I’m sorry, I want Creative to be a good compeditor to Apple, and the only way it can do that, is if it releases something super-awesome! We will find out at CES 2009 in around two days time. It’s good to see that Creative has a relatively large display booth, so whatever the Zii is, it better be good! Haha, Well, aren’t I smart? My sister got new RAM over the weekend, and so she had no use for her old spare 2GB of RAM. Since my computer only had 1GB at the time, I decided to “upgrade” since we had no other real use for the RAM. I pull my old RAM out, put the new RAM in, turn computer on, doesn’t load. I put old one back in. Won’t load. I tried all sorts of different combonations and my computer failed to load. So, I left my computer alone for the rest of that night, and took my computer to my local computer guy yesterday to see what was wrong. Turns out, my slot was made for the older DDR, while the new RAM I was trying to put in was DDR2. Haha. Fun… So, now I have to get a new motherboard and I’m computerless… (I’m on my sister’s computer right now) So, while I’m here, and since I’ve been unable to make a blog post recently, I was unable to say Happy December! Last month of 2008… Haha, Cameron managed to visit my blog recently! *Is extremely surpirsed*. Shame on you Matthias, for not have visited my blog yet. Shame… Although he did provide me with this awesome fact/theory and how cats have 9 tails. “No cat has 8 tails. Cat has 1 more tail than no cat. Therefore, Cats have 9 tails.” GENIUS! Oh, and Coby managed to disprove the theory that “What you don’t know can’t hurt you”. Damn Coby thinks! (That’s a good thing by the way… despite the use of the word “Damn”) Although, under the right circumstances, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you” doesn’t work, however, when relevant, I will continue to use this phrase! Oh, since Jesse bought himself a 2GB Samsung S2 a while ago,(the one also nicknamed “the pebble”) he has recently been testing out the battery life, and was disappointed to find that it didn’t last much longer than 6 hours, despite the fact that it says 10. Since my pair of earphones have died recently, I needed a new pair. And as a result, I thought; “meh, what the hell?” I like Creative’s products. They can occasionally be unreliable, however their designs I find are mostly very nice and smooth! Thus, in our household, we only seem to have Creative products when it comes to Mp3 players. No iPods! =) I have the Creative ZEN Multimedia Player, my sister has the ZEN Neeon Mp3 player, and the newest addition, my Creative ZEN Stone! =D Since they were cheap, I bought myself the Creative ZEN Stone. Buying the stone itself would have cost $36, while for some reason, at the same store, the ZEN Stone + Travelsound kit cost $35… Heh, so I got me a pair of portable speakers for the ZEN stone too! Along with the indednted earphones that I had planned to buy. =D I really like the design of the ZEN Stone, and I struggled to choose Black or White. I ended up choosing black, and so now, I shall have to test the battery life of the ZEN Stone. It claims 10 hours but we’ll see. Although another thing I am excited about, is how the speakers come with batteries! Most batteries that are provided, are crappy ones that last less than 5 minutes, but Creative provided Energizer batteries! =D So, I’ll have fun with my Creative ZEN stone for now, while my computer is dead… Fun. I don’t know, I got myself a Creative ZEN Portable Multimedia Player back I think in October last year. Despite the fact that I had to replace my ZEN twice so far, I really like the ZEN, and it has a nice design to it as well. I don’t like my phone however. It placed rather deep scratches in my ZEN’s screen… =( I is not happy about that… As I don’t quite like iPods, I was taking a look at anythingbutipod.com, which reviews things fairly well, and reading various reviews about different media players. Bayden had talked to me about the Creative ZEN X-Fi a while ago and it sounded pretty awesome to me… As I was reading the review about it, it now doesn’t seem that awesome anymore… Sure, it can access various wireless points to stream music and videos, but the battery doesn’t last that long when doing this… Unlike the original ZEN, it has speakers, X-fi sound enhancements, and the same, handy layout as my ZEN. The player also has a chat network which is not MSN or anything like that, but it uses Creative’s own chat network. The chat function works like texting on a phone, although you have to use the navigation keys in order to get to the number, and press the centre button in order to get to the next letter which can be rather annoying and inconvenient. Unfortunately, there is no dictionary for it yet and it’s not quite useful right now, and not that practical, as not many people have the ZEN X-Fi… A huge advantage that I like about the X-Fi is that the reset button is a lot bigger than the original ZEN’s where the reset button is like microscopic… Disadvantages with the expandable memory with the X-fi are shared with the ZEN. The content on an SD Card cannot access the same media features as the content on the ZEN itself, such as organising playlists, sorting by artists or albums etc. Although video playback is relatively simple. I hope that Creative will upload some firmware that can do that later… Anyway, that’s enough about the Creative ZEN X-Fi. Here’s a little late information from the ATSB’s preliminary report from the incident onboard Qantas Flight 30. The ATSB has confirmed that the cause of the hole in the aircraft was due to an oxygen bottle. The bottle exploded upwards, creating a hole in the floor and entering the cabin near the second main cabin door. The bottle hit the door handle before falling down into the hole caused by the original explosion. |
