Phew… The past month has been so slow yet so long… School is such a strain and it’s holding me back from blogging… I received my half-yearly report to the dissatisfaction of my parents, (not surprised) and I really do need to pick my game for a good education if I’m to get anywhere in my future life right? But that hasn’t really stopped me from going out and about recently, which you will find, is mostly about food. =P
(What you see above is a Tuna Tataki dish from “Kushiyaki Azuma” a fairly classy Japanese Restaurant tucked away in “Regents Place” behind the George Street Cinemas in Sydney.)
They’re a nice little restaurant, where bookings are essential. I went with my sister and one of her friends from overseas visiting Australia for that month. (Above is Karaage Spatchcock)
Apparently they’re well known for their “Kushiyaki” (Grilled Skewers) offering a variety of meats and vegetables lightly marinated and of course, grilled. (They’re a little pricey for what I see them to be, but consider that’s offset by the setting, service and atmosphere the place provides.)
Ah… Chiffon Cakes. Always look like this huge, fattening piece of cake that is literally melt-in-your mouth deliciousness because it’s incredibly light and fluffy.
My sister tried “Azuma’s Affogatto” with a shot of Kahlua, and will have her own write up about the place soon-ish, when her blog gets up and running. =)
From the high-end foods, to the highest ends of foods, I was invited to my good friend, Nick’s place to enjoy a good old BBQ and Jam/Mah-Jong session.
Bacon. The food of gods.
All these eggs were cracked by me.
“I call it: Post Modern”
If Food Tech has taught me/us anything, is that Pepsi Max is a must have for any culinary concoction.
This time, we sauted some steak. Good Stuff.
If you weren’t already aware, my friend Geoff recently ordered a pair of Brainwavz M3 IEMs, which I have a write up here. Amazing sound from a cheap chinese brand.
A lot of people I know have been getting the Canon EOS 550D as of late (or the EOS Kiss x4 as my friend Bayden has, or the Rebel T2i as it’s known in America)
Had been a while since I last went to “Pancakes at The Rocks”. Took some of my friends there too. Some damn good pancakes.
Leon and I have been doing going to a fair number of Karaoke places as of late. (Well, twice in the past month, and only to Mizuya…)
They’re a Japanese restaurant karaoke bar which does some decent food.
More recently, went to Leon’s to do some more Yearbook work, and make sushi… (with Pepsi Max Chicken of course!)
… and play some Mah-Jong. (Been playing it fairly often now that I know the rules…)

Then yesterday, it was one of my friends 18th birthday, and so we all head to the City for some Laser Skirmish, Bowling, Sing Star and Pool at M9. (Never knew I was good at Lady Gaga on singstar… Must be those Monster Beats… O_o)
Mr Blurry Cam captures the moment I hand the birthday boy his present. (A 32gb ZEN X-Fi2 and a pair of Shure SRH-440 Headphones)
After watching Pirates 4 (which I thought was pretty good), walked up to Circular Quay to checkout the opening night of “Vivid“. A light show on some of Sydney’s famous icons every night until June 13. I wasn’t carrying a tripod that night so there aren’t many photos to throw around from me.
The Customs House has a series of interesting projections.
Somehow that night, Leon and I got talked into going to some Korean place down in Chinatown to enjoy a $45 eight course degustation despite being in a hurry to get home. (Above was what I believe to be a simple rice-porridge with a little seafood and vegetables garnished with pistachio nuts. Surprisingly good considering I hate rice porridge.)
Two slices of salmon and tuna sashimi served with a side of salad leaves in a light mayonnaise/creamy-lemon kind of vinaigrette. (The Tuna slices I found were unusually generous and thick, which may be because the fish was still slightly frozen…)
An intersting… skewer with carrot, beef, cucumber, seafood stick and… something, fired with an egg?
A classic cold dish of Potato noodles. =)
A very yummy Kimchi soup. (which for me had just enough kick to it without being too hot)
And what’s a Korean restaurant without a Korean BBQ?
Honestly, despite it all being last night, I don’t really remember the details on the menu, what exactly it was that we ate, and despite missing several trains out due to this impromptu 1.5 hour degustation, we left the place quite happy I’m pretty sure.
The place is called “The gu-E”, and is a new restaurant located along Dixon Street and not in central Chinatown. They do not have a website as of yet, but there are a few reviews on eatability, generally positive, and I’d like to add to that. From what we ate, the $45 eight course degustation was a good sampling of some, albeit simple, but authentic Korean cuisine. I’d write much more if I knew more about the place, and what we ate, (maybe Leon will have a better write up?) but overall, I’d be delighted to pay a visit again…
UPDATE – They do indeed have a website now, http://www.thegue.com.au/
And last but not least; a delightful package arrived at my door containing some otaku goods for me. =D
(Mizuki Nana’s latest singles “POP MASTER” and “SCARLET KNIGHT”, Kuroneko Nendoroid, a Rewrite deck box thingy, a set of Rubber Nanoha Movie straps, and a Little Busters mouse pad for one of my friends)
Hauu~! I know that if I actually use these they’re gonna get ruined! TT_TT
Can you figure out what the time is?
