Aww… Why are some of the good horses not running the 2008 Emirates Melbourne Cup? Last years winner of the 3200 metre Melbourne Cup, Efficient, and this years Caulfield Cup winner, All the Good (partly trained in/owned by Dubai hehe…) have both been scratched after they injuring their legs during each of their training sessions. With both Efficient and All the Good scratching themselves, the question now is, will the winner be Zipping past the others, or will there will be a Mad Rush first for the finish line? The Emirates Melbourne Cup winner may be Gallopin past the finish line first, or even an Ice Chariot! The winner could be considered Barbaricus, and if not, it may be Viewed! Some cities seem to want the Melbourne Cup, including the Hawaiian capital Honolulu, a town in Mozambique called Moatize, a Newport, and even Yellowstone wants it! Maybe a physicist can somehow decide who wins, with Alessandro Volta electrifying the field. The possibilities are Boundless!
Okay, enough with the bad puns. I just made terrible puns (I’m not even sure if all of them work…) with 12 of the 24 horses running in the 2008 Emirates Melbourne Cup. The favourite has been Septimus for the past few days, although the now favourite is Mad Rush, although not far behind. Septimus is trained in Europe, and has won 8 out of 12 starts in it’s career, and has won all his races that were longer than 2800 metres, although whether or not he does well in Australia is a different matter, as this is the first time he’ll be racing here in Oz. The Melbourne Cup is always fun, watching peoples money go down the drain! Seeing some of these horses again is good, although I am disappointed at Efficient, unable to win back-to-back Melbourne Cups, although even if he did run, I don’t think he would win however much I wanted to see him win. I am happy to see Zipping running again this year, he’s growing old, coming 2nd in the recent Cox Plate and 4th in the last 2 Melbourne Cup Races, and hasn’t won a race for a while. Master O’Reilly is running again, having not won anything in while either, and I would also like to see him win something…
Lots of foreign horses running this year, whether any of them will win or not is hard to tell. Who I actually think will win? Either Septimus or Zipping. Who I want to win? Zipping, Master O’Reilly or Gallopin. Honolulu is kinda my “roughy” and I would also like to see him win. Last year, I guessed Efficient would win by choosing names I liked. If I went like that this year who would I choose? Good question… Gallopin, Viewed or Boundless? Hehe… We shall see how good I’m able to pick a winner this year!
[…] on Saturday in the Mackinnon Stakes and thus he won’t be racing tomorrow either… So, unlike last year, I am not going to make a whole lot of puns with the horse’s names because last year, I absolutely failed in my tipping. So my picks for […]
