Heh, can’t make many puns with the results of the 2008 Melbourne Cup…

Hehe, well, umm… Yeah… Well, some of you may have learnt not to trust me when it comes to choosing horses… Eheh… Who would have thought Viewed would have won? Not many… Perhaps I should make not as many puns when I choose horses… The final order of the Melbourne Cup is as follows:

st – Viewed – $41 win; $12 place
nd – Bauer – $7 place; Quinella – $97
rd – C’est La Guerre – $8 place; Trifecta – $21000
th – Master O’Reilly – First 4 – $407000 (all payouts are NSW prices)
th – Profound Beauty
th – Moatize
th – Mad Rush
th – Nom du Jeu
th – Zipping
th – Newport
th – Ice Chariot
th – Guyno
th – Littorio
th – Varevees
th – Boundless
th – Red Lord
th – Prize Lady
th – Septimus
th – Barbaricus
th – Alessandro Volta
st – Honolulu
DNF – Gallopin

Haha, as you can see… Ummm… Yeah, I kinda chose who won… “If I went like that this year who would I choose? Good question… Gallopin, Viewed or Boundless?” Hehe… Eh… It was there… just um…. No. Didn’t trust my original way of picking a winner, and this time, I chose going by statistics. My result? 18th, with my closest coming 4th… My “roughy” came last, one of my other choices didn’t even finish the race… Damn… Like a lot of people, no money for me… Alessandro Volta managed to hold the field for most of the race, just like last year’s Tungsten Strike. Both of them had huge odds against them, and as always, the leaders seem to fall behind, Volta coming 2nd last, and Strike coming last.

I am still unsure as to what had happened to Gallopin and as to why he did not finish. From one source, it appears that he was unable to finish because he had “breathing difficulties” and so had to be pulled out of the race. Poor Zipping and Master O’Reilly. Not being able to finish their racing careers with a top 3 position for the Melbourne Cup this year, and unable to score a win in recent runs… Well then, you know not to follow me when it comes to choosing horses! Hehe, oh well. There’s always next year I guess? Heh, yeah…
