“‘Pure white’ is not something that’s red…”

Okay, so it took me a strangely long time to complete the anime series “Vampire Knight”. I started watching it after I had finished the first two seasons of Higurashi no naku koro ni (Early August) and I have just finished watching the 13th episode, the last episode, today. I will say that this anime didn’t seem to grab me that well, and felt as though it was rather slow moving. There is no where near as much gore in this one, than in Higurashi, although if you are easily scared, the “Level E” vampires may give you a bit of a scare.

As suggested by the name of the anime, “Vampire Knight” is to do with vampires, although it is not a “I vant to suck your blood!!!” type of storyline. (Thank God! lol) The story revolves around a young girl called “Yuuki”, her also adopted brother “Zero”, and a pureblood vampire, “Kaname”, who all belong to the Cross Academy. The Cross Academy is split into two different classes: Day Class (Normal human beings), and Night Class (Vampires). Yuuki and Zero have been previously attacked by vampires and have had their parents killed during their childhood, and so they were adopted by the Chairman of the Cross Academy, making them prefects. The prefects serve as “guards” during the night, in order to protect humans from vampires, and to hide the fact that the all members in the Night Class are Vampires. Problems start arising, when Zero starts to behave strangely and when she is caught in I guess what you can call a love triangle between Zero and Kaname.

As stated earlier, I found this anime to be rather slow moving despite it only having 13 episodes. For me, things only started to pick up in the last four to five episodes when a mysterious student enrolls into the Academy. The characters designs and uniforms I found to be rather interesting. I wouldn’t mind having one of those uniforms myself… The eyes are probably the stand out in terms of “interesting character designs” and I personally don’t quite like the eyes that much… It has been confirmed that a 2nd season will be made and aired in Japan in October I believe, and I also believe that I will be watching it to see what was the result of this season’s cliffhanger.

My anime watch list right now is to definitely watch “Death Note” and the soon to be released “Vampire Knight – Guilty”, and in December “Higurashi no naku koro ni Rei”, the OVA to the original Higurashi seasons.
