“Wow! The apples in the human world are damn good! They are, how do you say, “Juicy”?” Well, I FINALLY started “Death Note”, and I’m glad I have people to talk to about Death Note! =D Almost all the other anime and television shows that I watch are not watched by my friends… =( Well, anyway, I, so far, have just watched the first six episodes and it seems to be moving quite well, and it seems to have already grabbed me, and I hope to have the series finished in two weeks, so long as I don’t have any long interruptions during my holidays and/or I don’t over procrastinate.
Haha, boredom. One of the most deadly emotions/feelings/reactions that one could ever experience. (And I use “deadly” quite literally here…) “Rebirth”, the first episode, was a good introduction to the series. Light Yagami, the main character, is just one of those “super intelligent” students is bored, like a normal student I guess… Ryuk, who is a Death God, is also terribly bored… So what does he do? He decides to drop his “Death Note” into the human world, which Light eventually picks up… Now, the Death Note is a notebook, where, as the name kinda suggests, when you write a person’s name down, the person is to die. There are rules to the Death Note in terms of how to use it, and how it works, so you don’t kill everyone who has the same name: “This note will not take effect unless the writer has the subject’s face in their mind when writing his/her name.” The person is to die of a heart attack in 40 seconds after the name has been written down if a cause of death is not specified. At first, Light sees it to be a form of practical joke, but once he tests the Death Note out, he discovers that it is real deal. Just like any bored student, he uses the Death Note “for the greater good”. Although once he kills a large number of people, the International Police Organisation and the legendary “L” go after him, in a thrilling, psychological “cat and mouse” style chase.
Now, of course, once again, I am terrible at writing reviews, and I’d strongly suggest you read other reviews on “My Anime List“. I guess I would say that this has already hooked me, and I hope that the series continues on it’s rather fast moving plot line for the next 31 episodes. All the characters have very interesting personalities and actions, particularly L. Unlike the Higurashi series, the soundtrack and music used in Death Note is not as fitting, so I’ve found, although the animation is very much better than Higurashi… You can keep track of where I am in Death Note by visiting my My Anime List profile, and see the other anime that I have seen/plan to see. Yeah, some of them are weird…
First Impression: Hooked (10 out of 10)
